California Initiative -- Outlaw Divorce

Move afoot to outlaw divorce

John Marcotte
2010 California Marriage Protection Act

2010 California Protection of Marriage Act

SECTION 1.
Title -
This act shall be known as the "2010 California Marriage Protection Act."

SECTION 2.
Section 7.6 is added to Article I of the California Constitution, to read:

No party to any marriage shall be restored to the state of an unmarried person during the lifetime of the other party unless the marriage is void or voidable, as set forth in Part 2 of Division 6 of the Family Code.

This is stunning!

A complete repeal of divorce laws -- not just no-fault divorce, but all divorce!

What a wonderful law for Separation of Church and State.

The State would no longer have the power to break apart "what God has joined together".

Grounds for a divorce would resort to Biblical grounds and be granted or denied by a religious authority of the religion the couple belonged to.

Men and women would once again know the ground rules for marriage well before entering into a marriage in their Church.

If a woman is being abused by her husband, she and her husband will need to obtain counseling from her religious leader.

If children are being abused by either the father or the mother, their minister or Rabbi would intervene, not Child Protective Services.

The Christian Solution stands solidly behind the saintly campaign of John Marcotte.

Reactions

The reaction from the "marry a new man once a week" crowd is as expected.

The first reaction below implies the law ALSO mandates forced marriage. Nope, marriage will continue to remain a voluntary commitment in America, as per the Constitution. All the law does is get the government out of the way.

And if your religion says that you should OBEY your "BOSS", as this lady characterizes religious marriage, and you object to their religious teachings, then leave the Church. Find another. Good riddance! Then, with your charming personality lady, go flip off your REAL BOSS at work and see how well society treats you. And you have to get a REAL BOSS lady, because no Christian man wants to support you.
Progress toward the past is not progress, it's regress. Perhaps your father and mother could do it the old fashion judeo-Christian way, and choose a man for you, whom you would HAVE to accept because you MUST OBEY YOU PARENTS LITTLE LADY OR ELSE, and we all know the object of union is not happiness anyway but to procreate. (And you better not enjoy sex, enjoyment would be a sin). And don't forget to OBEY your husband, the bible says he is YOUR BOSS.

Here is another along the same misguided lines.

I'm glad to finally see some legislation that will help our progress towards the past. It is refreshing to know that there are people out there that understand the value of marriage in the traditional sense. I can't wait until my father gives me away to a man – this legislation will insure that I'm his forever. Now all we have to do is save up the dowery!

Tracy Thompson make a beautiful reply, noting that husbands have to FIRST SUBMIT THEMSELVES to Jesus. And Jesus says to love your wife.

Again taking things out of context. Marriage is a choice, no one is even questioning that except you... as with any choice, it is expected you take responsibility for your choices. Divorce is out of control, people get divorced over stupid fights, or because "it's just not working out anymore" with no effort put into the COMMITMENT whatsoever. It really is getting ridiculous. For the record enjoying sex in the sanctity of marriage is not a sin, it is a beautiful thing created by God intended for pleasure between married couples, if you want to quote the bible please don't twist it. Your husband is not your boss, but yes it is expected that as a wife you submit to your husband. This is a biblical thing that many women struggle with, it is all in the biblical design of marriage. Which by the way, in the bible it also states that everyone is a sinner which is why we have Jesus, we are not expected to be perfect. So yes I am married, still love it and would advise hetro to still look forward to it! I hope you do a little more research on Christianity and Christ before you attack it and misquote it. Thanks
