Now that's change."

A Short, but Twisted, History of Senate Appointments

In the early days of the Senate, when state legislators made the selection of every senator, stories of bribery and corruption were legion, particularly in the Gilded Age as the new leaders of the privileged class sought to buy their way in.

But even after the direct election of senators began in 1913 with the passage of the 17th Amendment, the filling of vacancies has frequently consumed governors and political insiders. They have wrestled with whether to reward patrons, install relatives, put in placeholders, take the post themselves or give it to a politician capable of holding it.

-- Extracted from The New York Times

Let me translate the Sadducee-owned New York Times article above for you.

  • "In the early days of the Senate, when state legislators made the selection of every senator"

    means

-- As our Founding Fathers established in the Constitution of the United States. The state legislatures were to represent the People of the State and had the authority to directly appoint their State Senators to represent their State. The Senate was to be the State's voice in the Federal government, as the House of Representatives was to be the People's voice in the Federal government. Both houses represented a vertical checks and balances on the power of the federal government.

  • "stories of bribery and corruption were legion, particularly in the Gilded Age as the new leaders of the privileged class sought to buy their way in",

    means

-- Back around 1913, media-Scribe muckrakers at The New York Times, a newspaper already wholly owned by "Gilded-Age privileged-class Sadducee-leaders", were falsely pretending to protect American citizens from evil "Gilded-Age privileged-class Sadducee-leaders".

The media-Scribes proposed the 17th Amendment as the "protection" that would guarantee that "Gilded-Age privileged-class Sadducee-leaders" would be kept out of the Senate.

Of course, as intended, the 17th Amendment did the exact opposite -- it opened up the Senate to control by the "Gilded-Age privileged-class Sadducee-leaders". Now the media-Scribes in the New York Times and others could "tell" ("inform") citizens how to vote for their Senator. This evil scheme worked especially well among Democrats who "have a life" and do not have the time nor inclination to keep up on current events, as was famously showed with voters for Obama in this last election. Democracy does NOT work! A Republic as established by our Founders does work! Do NOT let media-Scribes from The New York Times tell you otherwise.

  • "But even after the direct election of senators began in 1913 with the passage of the 17th Amendment, the filling of vacancies has frequently consumed governors and political insiders.",

    means

-- that the New York Times cannot hide the fact that the 17th Amendment they helped enact is a far worst solution than what the Founding Fathers gave us.

    The Christian Solution

Forget about taking away the Governor's play-toy of political appointment of Senatorial seats to friends, relatives, the highest bidder. That is nothing but legalized corruption.

The Christian Solution requires repeal of the entire 17th Amendment.

An even better solution would require an increase in the U.S. Senator count for each State to three, so that the "one vote of each State" in the Senate is represented by a plurality of votes among the three U.S. Senators.

The People would be better served if the People did not have to worry about voting for both their two Senators and their one Representative. Then they could focus entirely on their sole representative in the House. With only one candidate to focus on instead of three, this one representative would regain the focus of his constituents and thus regain his authority as the proper voice for the People of his district. Since there are 445 Representatives, they cannot be bought as easily as the 100 Senators. In fact, we should radically increase the number of Representatives in the House to get better representation and to dilute the chances of bribery. It is silly for some states to have two senators but only one Representative.

The Governors should NEVER have sole authority to appoint Senators. Unlike a Governor's cabinet, Senators do not report to the Governor. They should report directly to the legislature of the State, as originally intended in the Constitution.

Only with this vertical checks and balances of State legislature appointments to the Senate of the United States will State power allow for a workable checks and balances on escalating corruption of federal power.

P.S. For the selection of the President of the United States, it would help if the state legislatures selected the electors instead of allowing a mis-informed public to ignorantly decide who will be President. This was the longest Presidential campaign in history and we still knew nothing about Obama. We do not know if he is even eligible to be President, let alone if his policies are what is good for America. If we cannot even find out if our candidate is a natural born citizen, then how are we to know anything else about our President?

The 17th Amendment did not "fix" corruption, it made it worst!
    • Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich, a Democrat, tried to sell Press-Elect Obama's current Senate seat to Jesse Jackson, Jr., after he vacates his position next January.

    • Massachusetts Governor Foster Furcolo, a Democrat, appointed Ben Smith for the remaining two years of JFK's senate seat as a fill until JFK's younger brother Teddy Kennedy could be of legal age to run for Senator.

    • Delaware Governor Ruth Ann Minner, a Democrat, announced "her" choice to fill the Joe Biden vacancy: none other than Biden's longtime Senate chief of staff Ted Kaufman. The move is seen as giving a seat a caretaker until Attorney General Beau Biden (yes, Joe's son) could run in 2010. The younger Biden is serving in Iraq.

    • Louisiana Governor Edwin W. Edwards, a Democrat, appointed his wife, Elaine, to fill a vacancy for a few months in 1972

    • New York, where Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton would give up her seat if she is confirmed as secretary of state, politicians have been maneuvering to get a place on a list of potential candidates that includes Caroline Kennedy, the daughter of the former president. (God! Please have mercy!! Another Kennedy!!)

    • Nine governors since the 1930s have had themselves appointed to the Senate.

The Christian Solution is the real fix

Call for a repeal of the 17th Amendment. 90% of America's problems would be instantly solved with this one real fix.
